There happened to be a few times already this year when I was about to add this very page here because I expected Dean Ambrose to win this Intercontinental Championship belt at some time earlier this year. And then a bit later. Then he stole it and because of that it wasn’t a real title run, of course. At some point I wasn’t just annoyed about what WWE was doing with Dean Ambrose; I wasn’t interested at all. So, his actual win on 13 December 2015 at TLC (Boston, Massachusetts) when Dean Ambrose defeated WWE Intercontinental champion Kevin Owens within 9:53 minutes doesn’t really bring me back to watching WWE. I will write about his title win and I’ll add all his defenses on this page. I don’t expect a long run but who knows – no-one knows with WWE. So let’s see how long Dean Ambrose is allowed to carry this belt around and if he’s allowed to make this belt important again.

(Dean Ambrose’s IC title defenses that were actually shown on TV, I’ve marked in red.)

Dean Ambrose’s first run as Intercontinental Champion indeed didn’t last very long – just 64 days. But this only happened because WWE isn’t able to make their mind up about if – in their eyes – Dean Ambrose has to be wasted in mid-card or if he is a main eventer. So, it wasn’t much believable that Dean Ambrose – who already carried around the IC title belt – was so much after the WWE World Heavyweight Championship belt that he basically begged Brock Lesnar to punish him at every single occasion. This booking actually made the IC title belt invisible because Dean Ambrose being in this storyline wasn’t able to defend this belt (just in live events where the current storyline isn’t important). So it made sense for him to lose the IC belt to someone who was actually able to defend it, in this case Kevin Owens.

But Dean Ambrose losing the Intercontinental Championship doesn’t automatically mean that he’s got a chance to win the Triple Threat match at Fastlane against Roman Lames and Brock Lesnar and main event WrestleMania against Tripe H for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Reigns will still win the Triple Threat. Then Dean Ambrose will lose his re-match against Kevin Owens for the IC title and maybe have his one-on-one match against Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania. Hopefully Dean Ambrose will be finally separated from Reigns at Fastlane. The problem is that he’ll probably feud with Reigns when the guy wins the title at WrestleMania. Where Reigns is, Dean Ambrose isn’t far away. And this is something that takes away a huge amount of the joy that I have when I watch Dean Ambrose.
