Banter or abuse: where is the line?

It’s probably common sense that so-called banter belongs to the culture of sport. Most acknowledged between certain groups of fans in football stadia. One group sings a song that calls one player of the other team not good enough to even play in a Sunday morning league and the other group responds with targeting the other team’s fans as somehow escaped from the asylum. Or something like that. I think you get the point and you know what I’m talking about when you are regularly watching football games from the stands. But even if you are only watching on TV you can sometimes listen to the sing-song and some phrases.

Der übernächste Gegner ist schon besiegt. Deutschland nach der Niederlage gegen Italien

Gestern Nacht wurde offenbar, daß Fußballdeutschland und seine Fans aus der Champions-League-Niederlage seiner Bayern aus München nichts aber auch gar nichts gelernt haben. Vor allem im Vorfeld des zweiten Halbfinales der Europameisterschaft Deutschland vs Italien wurde eigentlich mehr über das Finale gegen Spanien und wie man die am besten ausspielen könne, um nach 1996 endlich wieder den Pokal nach Hause zu holen, geredet als über die minimale Hürde Italien. Schließlich spielen die nur Catenaccio, stellen sich hinten rein und hoffen auf ein 0-0 nach 120 Minuten. Anders sind die ja auch nicht ins Halbfinale gekommen. Wozu also über die reden? Sprechen wir statt dessen über die wichtigen Dinge, nämlich das Finale gegen Spanien und unseren Pokal.
